With Monday’s deadline looming in which all teams must cut down to 75 players, the Jets decided to get a head start by cutting seven players from the roster Saturday.

G Terrance Campbell, LS Derek Chard, DT Matt Hardison, WR Dexter Jackson, CB LeQuan Lewis, S Marcus Lott and WR Raymond Webber were waived, per Jenny Ventras of the Star LedgerThe roster is now down to 80 players.

None of these moves come as much of a surprise, as none of these players really had a a legitimate shot of making the team. Because of the new 90-man roster limit, these bottom-level players were never given a fair shot to begin with. To be frank, the Jets are probably doing these players a favor by letting them go now and not wasting any more of their time.

Perhaps the biggest name is Dexter Jackson, a former second-round speedster who cannot seem to stick around on an NFL team.

After Sunday’s game, the Jets will still need to make five more roster cuts before Monday’s deadline. This wave of releases just makes the picture a bit clearer as to who the Jets are really looking at in tomorrow’s game.
