Gavin Escobar could be a great value pick in the mid rounds of the draft (Photo: US Presswire)

The Jets’ first round selection looked to be booked for a DE/OLB (Moore, Mingo, Jones, Jordan, and Ansah) but now Cordarrelle Patterson has entered the picture as a viable option to inject some juice into the dormant passing attack. That, and the fact this draft is a perfect opportunity to trade down, gain picks and lose almost no value. So my former “2nd Rounder” category can be expanded to include a possible first round pick. Hence the “Premium Pick” label.

A potentially cheaper alternative to a play-making wide out could be a big pass catcher from the tight end spot. Here are some options.

8. Jake Stoneburner OSU

6’5 245

Strengths: He shows fluid mobility and athleticism that allows him to run routes like a wide receiver.

Weaknesses: Suspended the first few games of this season and needs to mature off the field.

The Take Home: Playing mostly at wide out for Urban Meyer, Stoneburner has displayed the route running ability and change of direction skills typical of that position despite being projected as a tight end. Overall, his stock is hurt considerably by both his suspension and relative lack of production (only 14 receptions all year).
